North Philadelphia = Awesome

As tomorrow is July 4th, and everyone will heap a lot of praise on the events that occurred in Philadelphia on July 4th, 1776, I want to heap a little bit of praise on a part of the city that won't get the same love- North Philadelphia. Other parts of Philadelphia have the historic sites, the stadiums, Italian Markets, art museums and everything else, but North Philadelphia has a soul. While the demographics have changed a lot, it's a working class neighborhood, and always has been. It's the home of Temple University, which I consider to be Philadelphia's true, hometown university. Broad Street in North Philadelphia is full of action, businesses, and almost all the time, people. Sure, the houses are a bit older in some neighborhoods, and there is some crime up there, but I enjoy being in North Philadelphia. Yesterday we moved my sister out of her apartment by Temple University (where she graduated in May), and soon she'll move in Center City for her law school years, but I'll miss going to North Philly to see her.

Hail to the birth place of our nation, and hail to North Philadelphia, real to the end.
